Consistency in Leadership

Hello fellow youth leaders!  Over the past twenty plus years in youth ministry I have probably made hundreds of thousands of decisions.  In those decisions there has bound to be a mistake or two or seven hundred.  One mistake I've made is that I don't remember from student to student and from year to year all the decisions I have communicated to the students in my care.  So, in one student's perspective I may not be fair.  When in reality, I just have a short term memory.

Each decision is important because it communicates how much you care for each individual student in your ministry.  If you say one thing with one student but then say another thing with another student it communicates favoritism - even if you didn't mean to.  And no one likes to be the unfavored one.

Another thing to consider with being a consistent leader is doing what you are telling your followers.  To me, that speaks volumes about your integrity.  Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching.  My wife and I tell our kids that all the time.  I know none of us are perfect, nor will we ever be this side of glory, but doing what you are telling those you are leading is really important.

How have you shown consistency?  How have people who have led you in the past not been consistent in their leadership?  I would love to hear from you.  Thanks for reading!
